After teaching life drawing, figurative studies and portraiture for nearly 20 years, I have developed both an empathetic and technical teaching style, working with teenagers, adults, beginners and professional artists/designers.
Finding teaching became an exploration and a two way conversation about individual perception. The focus of the study of human form can be instrumental in supporting individual expression and encouraging critical analysis. It is possible to use the discipline of observational studies to develop hand eye coordination, and confidence in the acquisition of skills. Yet within this subject area you can also develop free imaginative/emotional/empathetic responses, learn and apply all art media, experiment and refine; discuss art history, art professionality, visual language, philosophy, individual and cultural psychology.
